Bristol Street Style: Polka Dot Maxi Skirt

Monday, 1 April 2019

Oh beautiful Spring sunshine, you are everything to me! Bristol is always prettier when the sun makes an appearance and I'm always happier when I have my legs out. Fact. I do love my denim skinnies but skirts and dresses are approximately eight times more comfortable. I've been holding onto this little polka dot number for about a month now, and I finally got to wear it last week! Hurrah!

So where have I been? Well, earlier this week I posted an article about the dreamiest trip Sam & I took to the Algarve in Portugal. It was our first time visiting the country which is a bit scandalous considering Sam is part Portuguese (sort of). I wore lots of cute dresses during our time there but since then, my spring/summer wardrobe has been waiting for the temperature to rise in the UK.

Studio by Preen at Debenhams Wrap Dress

So following on from my post last week, I'm back with another little blog article. I really meant what I said about buying less and focusing on items *I know* I'll keep in my wardrobe for years to come, which is why I wanted to feature this ensemble.

There are only about 5-10 brands that I LOVE. I really like plenty of brands/stores, but the following names really spark joy for me because I want to wear A LOT of their pieces. Okay, here goes... Bjorg, Anthropologie, Free People, Spell, Wildfox, Nine by Savannah Miller, Studio by Preen and Eclectic Eccentricity. That'll do!

So one of my faves is Studio by Preen (obsessed) which can be found at good ole Debenhams. My first ever retail job was at Debs so I'll always have a bit of an attachment to it. I think it's garnered a bad rep in recent times but you can find some absolute gems both in-store and online *cough* Abigail Ahern everything *cough*! As somebody who can't afford Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, I really appreciate this more purse-friendly line.

Well hello there! If you're reading this (hi, mum) I'm can report my blogging break is officially over. Hurrah! I won't bore you with the details but your girl is back. I've been a bit of a lurker, reading blogs on the daily (am I the only one who still does this?) and following my faves on Instagram, but not commenting much or documenting my outfits or travels.

So yes, I've still been travelling and buying cute clothes but I've felt a bit of an inner shift. Like most of my fellow Millennials, I'm trying to make better decisions. I've been vegetarian for over a year, I've started to reduce my waste, I'm really into fitness and fast fashion makes me feel a bit yucky. After watching the 'Stacey Dooley Investigates, Fashion's Dirty Secrets' documentary I stopped buying clothes altogether while I figured out what my next step was. How could I enjoy fashion if my habit is harming the environment?

It's a big question, one I still can't answer, but I'm now determined to buy less. I'm embracing second hand clothes and if I do purchase new items, I'm only buying quality pieces I know I'll wear over and over again. But seriously, why do I need another pair of jeans when I already have a pile in my wardrobe!? Answer: I don't.

Next Womens Pink Tailored Suit

I don't know about you guys, but I've been loving this season's obsession with tailoring and suits for women. I spotted this particular two piece a couple of years ago on Josie's blog and when I noticed she was selling it on Depop, I hunted one down in my size. Thank goodness for eBay.

Next have a fantastic range of suits this season and I actually have my eyes on a fitted lilac one which I'm hoping will go in the sale later in the summer. Since Beyoncé and Jay-Z dropped their new music video, my desire for a lilac suit has increased ten fold. All hail Queen B and her Peter Pilotto suit.

Next White Bardot Button Dress

Okay, so right now Bob Marley is playing and the sun shining. Whenever the UK is blessed with a mini heatwave, EVERYTHING just feels better... Am I right!? Sunshine = an excuse to wear cute clothes. Yes, I do like Autumn / Winter and the layering it brings, but I really enjoy wearing floaty dresses and sandals in Spring / Summer.

Here in the UK we've had the warmest May since records began and as a result, I've been hitting the shops. It goes without saying I'm still being responsible and getting lots of wear out of last year's summer wardrobe, but there are just tons of cute pieces on sale this season. Introducing, Exhibit A:

Nike Air Max 95 Ultra Jacquard in Obsidian Navy Review

Monday, 26 March 2018

Happy Nike Air Max day! Celebrated annually on the 26th March, this date commemorates the debut of Nike's most iconic shoe back in 1987. Both Sam and I are huge fans of the Nike Air Max - we love the aesthetic, ever evolving design and of course, how darn comfortable they feel. We've both been eyeing up the Nike Air Max 95s over the past few months and Sam finally managed to land himself a pair, thanks to Mainline Menswear.

To celebrate the big day, Sam was sent the Nike Air Max 95 Ultra Jacquard in Obsidian Navy to style. We've featured Mainline Menswear before, they have a massive range of designer clothes and footwear, including a decent selection of Nike sneakers. Of course Sam was keen to be involved and chose this hella cool new style:

Next Cream Pom Pom Sweater

How many pom pom jumpers is too many? Answers on a postcard! As mentioned in my previous post, I've been really impressed by Next's knitwear this season. This cute cream pom pom sweater reminds me of one my mum had in the 80s and I love how cosy it is. Oversized pom pom jumpers seem to be extremely popular as of late, with most of the big style Igers embracing them, and I'm completely on board with this trend. I like that this one from Next is so accessible, no need to order online and wait weeks for it to arrive from China. It's machine washable but it will be chilling in my handwash pile as I intend to keep this little gem in top condition. It also comes in red if you prefer a pop of colour. Nom.

On Sunday we took a stroll along the Bristol harbourside where we took these photos. It was a little drizzly so I'm really looking forward to Spring, this city is just beautiful in the sunshine and taking outfit photos in the dry is easier. Bloggers from warmer climes, I hope you realise how lucky you are! Ah well, at least the evenings are getting lighter. I can't believe the sun was still out when I got home earlier today. Hurrah!

Free People Seamed And Structured Blazer

Hello Free People jacket of dreams! It was my birthday last month so I used my birthday cash towards this beautiful Free People Seamed And Structured Blazer. I've wanted a red military jacket since 2008, after I spotting a wonderful Topshop version on Betty Autier.

Fast forward to 2018, I'm in Stockholm celebrating the anniversary of my birth and Jade slides into my DMs and sends me a link to this baby. She knows me so well. After sleeping on it and getting the nod of approval from my mum (she helps with 80% of my purchasing decisions), I ordered it! Hurrah!

Next Grey Funday Slogan Jumper

Thursday, 1 February 2018

Oh Next, you are killing it this season. I don't know how it happened, but Next have started 2018 in the best way. Over the past month, I have attracted no less than four jumpers from them (three were birthday gifts) and I couldn't wait to wear this Grey Funday Slogan Sweater.

The British high street store, recently asked uber babe Emma Willis to create a Spring Edit. I'm a big fan of Emma's style and she selected some cracking Next pieces in her edit, including two of the jumpers I now own. If you have time, she features in a sweet little video about her personal style which I recommend watching. I love how she admits her style isn't effortless and that sometimes she takes ages pulling together a look. We can all relate.

2018 - The Year of Doing (ALL the things)

Oh hello little space on the internet. My break wasn't an intentional one, sometimes life and fun can get in the way of writing words and documenting daily style.

I made a promise to myself I'd rekindle my love for blogging and share more in 2018. The only thing is, my birthday is shortly after Christmas and the socialising hasn't really stopped, until now. Getting back into the swing of work after a few weeks off has been a chore, which is why I've been protective of my weekends. It's also rained A LOT recently. Why do the downpours only seem to happen on my days off?

We went to Stockholm for my birthday, which was wonderful. It's a real melting pot, the Swedes have a genuine appreciation for art and the locals don't take themselves too seriously. Fika is also my new favourite thing. When I spent time in Copenhagen, I noticed the stylish locals mostly wore black and grey, but in Stockholm they embrace colour and kooky style. I'm hoping to write a post about it, but I said that about the Canadian Rockies and four months later, that still hasn't happened... Sorry Amy.

Bershka Yellow Faux Fur Jacket

Big Bird from Sesame Street was my inspiration for this outfit. Jade found this coat for me on ASOS and I was instantly smitten - that girl knows me so well. I've wanted a yellow faux fur coat for a few months and this one by Bershka is the perfect specimen. It's fluffy, warm and slightly ridiculous... Basically, right up my street!

I have a *couple* of faux fur jackets already but none as bold and bright as this beaut. I feel like Big Bird, a baby chick, a duckling and the honey puff monster all rolled into one.

UNIF Frost Sweater Alternative

Tuesday, 24 October 2017

If like me you've wanted a UNIF Frost Sweater since forever, but you aren't prepared to pay extortionate custom fees, fear not because I've found an alternative! At a mere £24.99, this Missguided pink multi stripe jumper is a fantastic dupe.

So it's not exactly the same, but it's definitely warmer and has a very enjoyable oversized fit. This jumper has completely sold out on the Missguided site but I managed to snag one from ASOS! I wanted to size up but they only had a 10 in stock so I just went for it and HUZZAH, it wasn't made for ants, so actually fits me.

Joanie Clothing: Flirty Fifties Prom Dress

Wednesday, 18 October 2017

I'm all about leather, faux fur and skulls but I do have a softer side, and sometimes I gravitate towards more feminine, romantic styles. In the past, I've described my style as eclectic - I just like a bit of everything and dress to suit my mood. This Joanie Ria Prom Dress has been hanging in my wardrobe since the summer. I wanted to wear it for a special occasion or a wedding, but the right situation never presented itself.

Fast forward to a warm autumn day and me throwing caution into the wind by slipping into this fabulous fifties number. Within 30 seconds of stepping outside my door, I received a "Wow, that dress is BEAUTIFUL", from a friendly (American neighbour). Gosh, you've gotta love Americans. With a spring in my step, I headed to the Bristol Harbourside to meet a friend for some Sunday fun.

Grey Leopard and Studded Leather

GREETINGS. Yeah, that's right. I'm back atcha with another style post from the streets of Bristol. I've rekindled my love for blogging and I'm here to stay... So get used to the frequent updates.

Last weekend was unusually warm, and rumour has it, the weather is going to be beautiful this week. Thank RPattz. Despite the heat, I couldn't resist throwing on my favourite Senso boots (inspired by Amy), my new leopard sweater, some gothic-esque jewels and this studded Dr Martens satchel. I'm pretty sure this is my favourite bag of ALL time. It's extremely hard wearing and still looks brand new even though it's five years old. I absolutely need to put on the matching boots sometime, because they are equally as awesome and deserve an outing.

DuoBoots: Joiners Leather Riding Boots

Thursday, 12 October 2017

Ah, Autumn. Last Sunday was surprisingly warm, so I stepped out wearing a just a light blazer and still felt overdressed. I'm not complaining because I've changed my mind and I don't think I'm 100% ready to embrace the rain and cold, just yet.

I've been meaning to feature this blazer on the blog for a few months after buying it from the The Bloggers Market in London earlier this year (thank you Kristabel). It was the perfect piece to style with my brand new black Joiners riding boots from DuoBoots. Aren't they awesome!? If you read my post earlier this week, you'll know that I recently attended their relaunch blog event in Bath and went home with these beauties from their AW17 collection.

CLUSE La Bohème Rose Gold Watch

Guess who's back on UK soil!? So If you haven't been keeping track, I recently went on my (belated) honeymoon to Canada! It was incredible and very snowy (Banff is a DREAM). Visit my personal Instagram for the evidence. I will most definitely be blogging about my trip soon, I just need to wade through a few hundred images first... Standard.

Now it's October and I don't have any trips planned for the rest of the year, I'm focusing all my energy on sorting my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Huzzah! I naturally gravitated toward an all black ensemble as soon as the temperature dipped this week, but I'm hoping to order some cute fluffy knits and bold faux fur jackets to brighten things up. I've already started buying Christmas gifts (I KNOW) and started thinking about what I'd like to open on Xmas morning. If you know me well, you probably won't be surprised to learn I have a few watches on my list for Santa.

I think I have about 15 watches already but I love them all! They genuinely bring me joy and so yes, I always want more. One new watch label I've been seeing a lot on Instagram over the past few months is CLUSE, a brand that hails from Amsterdam. They claim their timepieces represent elegance and minimalism. I was keen to try them and thanks to Browns Family Jewellers, I was able to do just that! I managed to get my paws on the gorgeous CLUSE La Bohème rose gold and grey watch.

Stella & Dot: Bristol Street Style

Ahhh, gingham. I bought this gingham midi dress a few months back and it was a welcome edition to my wardrobe. I had to adjust the straps slightly (New Look, what were you thinking!?) but it's the perfect casual frock. Do you agree? Yesterday I made my way to the beautiful Bristol harbourside to take these shots... I've really missed taking outfit photos. My absence has been down to a combination of bad weather and social summer weekends! I promise to make more of an effort before it's winter and outside snaps are a thing of the past. British problems.

Today I'm back styling some beautiful jewellery from Stella & Dot. I've known about this cute brand for a few years but it wasn't until recently that I got my mitts on some of their stylish pieces. Their awesome PR team sent me a selection of items to feature and considering it's really difficult to guess someone else's jewellery style, they nailed it!

M&S; Holiday Shop SS17 + Giveaway!

I'm happiest when on a beach or at a sample sale. Fact. I love going on holiday in the beautiful sunshine but often struggle to find the perfect swimwear. I have a few pieces I've kept for years but since I went up a size recently, I wasn't feeling confident in them anymore.

The team at M&S have launched a new holiday shop for 2017 and it's all about celebrating yourself and feeling your best! They want women to choose flattering styles that make them feel extraordinary. Everyone knows M&S have an awesome lingerie section, but that also extends to swimwear.

As part of this campaign, they sent me a hamper of holiday shop goodies to style. When my package arrived in a beautiful large shopper bag, I couldn't be more excited! Inside I found two bikinis and two beautiful swimwear cover-ups.... SQUEE.

Oasis Maxi Dress: Bristol Street Style

Do you love re-discovering old pieces of clothing as much as me? Granted, I can no longer fit into 50% of my wardrobe (those people who say you'll gain weight once you're married are right) but every now and again I'll find an old gem in my closet!

After working in retail for a long time, I've accumulated a lot of clothes. I'm going to do a car boot sale soon because my wardrobe is bursting at the seams! Sadly I know I'll only get a couple of quid for my expensive frocks and jeans, but I'd rather they go to a good home than sit gathering dust.

Another Zara Smock Dress

Friday, 14 July 2017

A few days ago I saw a tweet from a fellow blogger that made me chuckle - "Remember when outfit of the day posts were outfits people actually wore that day." Ah yes, the glory days. Today's post features an outfit I actually wore to work yesterday. It might look familiar because my last style post features the red version but it makes me happy, so YOLO.

On that note, I'm feeling inspired again so huge thanks to everyone who commented on my previous post about why I took a blogging break! I wanted embrace the old school blogging vibes so we shot this in my favourite street style location, by my trusty train. Bristol harbour was bustling with tourists and two mature women were in fits of giggles watching me pose. UM, WHATEVER ladies, your laughter only feeds my fabulousness.
